Committees and Groups...
Serving the church and the community
The following boards, committees and groups represent our commitment to the church and to the community.
CONGREGATIONAL COMMITTEES
SESSION
“The Session is responsible for the mission and government of the particular church.” Book of Order (G-10.0102) Our name “Presbyterian” comes from the Greek word “Presbuteros” which means Elder. Our congregation is governed by a council of Elders, called a Session, who are charged with providing for the worship, ministry, and mission of God’s church. Our Session meets on the second Tuesday of every month at 7:00 p.m.
BOARD OF DEACONS
“The office of Deacon as set forth in Scripture is one of sympathy, witness, and service, after the example of Jesus Christ. It is the duty of Deacons, first of all, to minister to those who are in need, to the sick, to the friendless, and to any who may be in distress.” Book of Order (G-6.0400)
Each Deacon is assigned to a designated zone (12-15 family units) to maintain contact with those zone members throughout the year. All members of the board serve on one of the two committees: Caring (Health Ministries) or Fellowship.
- Caring Committee: responsible for coordinating care on behalf of the congregation for church members who are ill, homebound, have had a death in the family, or have other special needs.
- Health Ministries Sub-Committee: oversees the Parish Nurse Program, seeks to provide physical, spiritual, and emotional care for individuals, families, and the community served by our local congregation. They also link individual needs to the resources available in the community.
- Fellowship Committee: provides and plans for fellowship opportunities within the congregation – activities designed to make anyone at church, whether a visitor or a member, feel warmly welcomed and valued.
ADMINISTRATION COMMITTEE
The Administration Committee is responsible for personnel management of all salaried staff members, review of membership rolls and attendance, operation of church office and all church reports and publications.
CHRISTIAN EDUCATION
This committee works to create opportunities for the Christian to find exploration and nurture in their life through classes, bible studies, and forums. The CE committee is responsible for the children’s Breakfast and Bible Quest, Applied Theology, Water Walking, and Youth Bible Studies. Look for many more educational opportunities in the coming months.
EVANGELISM COMMITTEE
The evangelism committee is charged with the task of leading the congregation in its ability to spread the “Good News” of Jesus Christ. This committee is currently focusing on using the ALPHA program to share this “Good News” with those thirsting for knowledge of God.
FINANCE COMMITTEE
This committee cares for the fiscal ministry of this congregation. They update the session and congregation on our financial position as well as strategically plan for the future insurance of our ability to minister in the name of Jesus Christ.
MISSION INTERPRETATION
The congregation has empowered the Mission Interpretation Committee to translate Christ’s ideas from Isaiah to concrete forms. To do so it is necessary to convey the Gospel message, assist the needy help individuals who are captive in a variety of ways, and provide healing. To this end, the Mission Interpretation Committee, with the consent of Session, has involved the church in a variety of mission projects.
PROPERTY COMMITTEE
This Committee is responsible for managing the church structure and maintaining the grounds for the members and our guests to use for worship and other social functions. When reviewing the list of Community Groups that use our facility on a weekly or monthly basis, we should be proud of our OUTREACH AND SERVICE to Fairborn. Also the Committee administers the work of the church sexton whose service is necessary to keep our building grounds safe and clean.
STEWARDSHIP COMMITTEE
The stewardship committee is charged with the responsibility of promoting and encouraging the congregation’s uses of its gifts given by God.
VISION COMMITTEE
This committee, our newest, has been charged with developing strategic mission and vision statements as well as developing a plan for their implementation with in the life of the church. We are at an exciting time of revitalization and growth as we are close to our celebration of 150 years of ministry in Fairborn. We are beginning to formulate our plans to aid our ability to minister to this community for many years to come.
WORSHIP COMMITTEE
This committee is charged “to provide for the worship of the people of God, including the preaching of the Word, the sharing of the Sacraments, and for the music program, in the keeping with the principles in the Directory for Worship.” Book of Order (G.10.0102 c)
CHOIRS
CHANCEL CHOIR
The chancel choir gives our Sunday morning worship a rich musical gift by leading the congregation in song. The choir, directed by Denise LoCiceró, rehearses on Wednesday nights at 7:00 p.m.
CHANCEL RINGERS
The chancel ringers are a handbell choir that enriches our worship experience through their melodious gifts of song. This choir plays occasionally through out the year. Iris Berry is the handbell choir director. Of you are interested in ringing, please contact the church office.
SCOUTING PROGRAM
BOY SCOUT TROOP 72
A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent. Troop 72 provides a program for 5th to 12th grade boys based on this Scout Law. The Boy Scouts of America help instill values, prepares the boys to make wise choices, stresses the importance of community service, and teaches them physical and leadership skills while providing a safe, fun social environment. For more information about this troop, contact Kevin Knepp (937) 879-7877.
GIRL SCOUT TROOP 463
I will do my best to be honest and fair, friendly and helpful, considerate and caring, courageous and strong, and responsible for what I say and do, and to respect myself and others, respect authority, use resources wisely, make the world a better place, and be a sister to every Girl Scout.
Junior Girl Scout Troop 463 meets every other Tuesday in the activity Room and strives to learn to live by the above Girl Scout Law. We also live by the Girl Scout motto, “Do a Good Turn Daily”. We try to improve our mind, body, spirit and community through Girl Scouting.
GIRL SCOUT TROOP 505
Troop 505 has bridged up to a Junior Troop this year. As brownies, we earned over 40 try-it badges. We are a small troop, consisting of 3rd and 4th graders. We may be small, but we have a huge amount of energy and happiness. We have big plans for the year – earning lots of merit badges and hopefully traveling. Our leaders have over 8 years of combined leadership and work very well with the girls in the troop.
OTHER GROUPS THAT USE OUR BUILDING
AA (ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS)
Groups’ Mission: Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experiences, strengths and hopes with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. The primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics achieve sobriety.
Schedule of Meetings: The AA Groups meet at noon on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, and at 8pm on Friday.
AA GROUP on Thursday Night 8:30 to 10:30
GROUP MISSION: We are not an organization in the conventional sense of the word. There are so fees or dues whatsoever. We are not allied with any particular faith, sect or denomination, nor do we oppose anyone. We simply wish to be helpful to those who are afflicted with the disease of alcoholism.
SCHEDULE: “The Flimsy Reed Group” of Alcoholics Anonymous meets every Thursday night from 8:30 to 10:30pm. Our purpose is to promote sobriety – freedom from alcohol – through the teaching and practice of the Twelve Steps. We believe that the Alcoholics Anonymous suggested program of recovery can be utilized as a blueprint for living that can and does relieve the obsession for alcohol and that can and does lead to a happy, joyous and free lifestyle that has benefits for all. We invite not only alcoholics but their friends and families to attend our meetings.
Our group name comes from a quote on page 28 of the Big Book of Alcoholic’s Anonymous – We, in our turn, sought the same escape with all the desperation of drowning men. What seemed at first a flimsy reed, has proved to be the loving and powerful hand of God. A new life has been given us or, if you prefer, ‘a design for living’ that really works.
AL-ANON
Meetings are every Monday in the Fellowship Hall including holidays. The beginners meeting starts at 7:30 pm; the regular meetings begin at 8:00 pm. The last Monday of February is the anniversary meeting from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

The NA Hilltop Recovery meeting meets every Monday night from 7 to 8pm in Fellowship Hall. Average attendance is about 10 people. We are a small group now but our goal is to grow so we may be able to help as many people as possible. Thank you for allowing us to have meetings at your church.
